Expansion shield for Raspberry Pi based on the MCP23017 integrated circuit that provides eight digital inputs and eight digital outputs with relative status LEDs. Each of the eight outputs drives a relay to which external loads can be connected. The I2C bus is used to access the shield's inputs/outputs. The shield's address can be configured using a three-position DIP switch, so as to allow the connection and management of up to eight shields simultaneously, each with a different address; this allows the system to be expanded up to a total of 64 inputs and 64 outputs that can be driven individually. It uses Wiring-PI2, an Open Source library licensed under the GNU LGPLv3 license that can be used in Python, which allows you to access the individual inputs and drive them in a very simple way.
