Arduino compatible Ethernet Shield is based on the Wiznet W5100 ethernet chip. The WIZnet W5100 implements the ethernet protocol with the whole TCP / IP and UDP stack. It supports up to four simultaneous connections.
The ethernet shield connects to an Arduino board via long headers that extend across the shield. This keeps the pin layout intact and allows you to mount another overlapping shield.
It has a micro-SD slot, which can be used to store files for sending over the network.
It is compatible and requires an Arduino Uno board. Duemilanove and Mega (using the Ethernet library).
