The Raspberry Pi Pico is a small, fast and versatile board built using the RP2040 chip, a brand new chip designed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation in the UK. The RP2040 features a dual-core Arm Cortex-M0 + processor with 264KB of internal RAM and supports up to 16MB of Flash. It has different GPIOs which include I2C, SPI and other special functions. Programmable in C and MicroPython, it can be used in various applications, from the control of a household appliance to the operation of a luminous display.

Raspberry Pi PicoBoard

A development board for Raspberry Pi's first in-house developed microcontroller chip

Image of Raspberry Pi's PicoBoard The Raspberry Pi's PicoBoard is a low-cost yet flexible development board for the RP2040 microcontroller chip that Raspberry Pi has developed in-house. Contains an RP2040 microcontroller chip with 2MB of Flash and a Micro-USB port for power, data and programming. The 40-pin DIP-style header provides 26 multifunctional 3.3V GPIOs, 23 digital-only GPIOs, and three ADC-compatible for additional functionality. The Pico development board also includes a 3-pin Serial Wire Debug (SWD) Arm® port for troubleshooting and monitoring.

The PicoBoard has been designed to be used with 2.54mm pin headers or as a surface mount module, since the user I / O pins are notched. There are also SMT pads under the USB connector and BOOTSEL button which allow access to signals when used as an SMT module. The built-in SMPS can generate the 3.3V used by the development board from a wide voltage range from 1.8V to 5.5V.This allows the use of various different power sources as a single ion cell lithium battery, a USB cable, or even three AA batteries in series.

PicoBoard programming can be done in two different ways. Using USB, the PicoBoard presents itself as a mass storage device where the user can drag and drop a file onto the device. While programming via the SWD port, the user can program as well as debug interactively.
