MANUAL |EXAMPLE OF CONNECTION WITH MOTORIZED BLINDS

Rain or flood sensor capable of activating its output in the presence of water or conductive liquids. A single circuit, a thousand uses!

Very useful in the home to detect water leaks to be reported to external devices such as alarms or home automation systems. It can also be used as a rain sensor to automatically close shutters, windows, awnings or disable irrigation systems. Furthermore, it can be used as a moisture detector for plants and gardens, allowing a control system or an irrigation system to know when the land is dry and needs water.

Can also be used as a touch switch to activate electrical loads!

After the great success of the first version, our water presence sensor is updated and introduces new features, better performance, flexibility and greater compactness.

ASSEMBLY

  • Version with relay output

To install the sensor in the relay output version it is necessary to connect the detection plate or the contacts to the PROBE terminals.

Then connect the 9 to 18V DC power supply which can be supplied by a battery or a 12V power supply for example.

The output of the sensor with relay consists of two contacts called clean which behave like a common switch by closing or opening a circuit.

In particular, by connecting the NO and C contact (normally open and common) there will be a closed contact (active load) in case of water detection and an open contact (deactivated load) in case the sensor is at rest without detecting water. While connecting the NC and C contact (normally closed and common) there will be a closed contact (active load) in case the sensor is at rest without detecting water and an open contact (load deactivated) in case of water detection.

The NO, C and NC contacts can also be used simultaneously with a single common to activate different loads depending on the state of the sensor.

Being clean contacts, the switched voltage and current can be from 0 to 250V in AC or DC and with current from 0 to 16A.

  • SENSITIVITY ADJUSTMENT

Sensitivity can be adjusted by means of the appropriate trimmer, making it possible to make the sensor more or less sensitive to the presence of water. During the adjustment, two extreme anomalous operations can occur with or without water: always disabled (to solve increasing sensitivity) or always active (to solve decreasing sensitivity). Activation is indicated by illumination of the intervention LED.

Sensitivity must also be adjusted in relation to the type of water to be detected (rainwater requires more minimum sensitivity than domestic water given its purity) and to the sensor plate distance.

  • POST DETECTION INTERVENTION DEACTIVATION TIME ADJUSTMENT

The sensor allows to have a temporal hysteresis from the end of the water detection to the signaling via relay or DC output. By means of the trimmer it is possible to adjust this time from 0 to about 60 seconds, allowing to avoid excessive switching in the event of intermittent water or detection close to the sensor threshold.

This delay only concerns the deactivation of the output at the end of the detection, for the activation of the output it occurs immediately upon the first detection of water.

WARNING

The main board and the detection plate must be connected with a normal cable at a maximum distance of less than one meter. Without this precaution, the sensor may not function correctly (always active).

If a connection with a greater distance is required between the main board and the detection plate (up to 10 meters), a three-wire 3-wire cable must be used, with 2 wires used for connecting the detection plate to the PROBE terminals and the third cable connected power supply negative (-) and left disconnected on the detection plate side.

A similar cable can also be made using a 4-pair ethernet network cable. Only two pairs are required for connection. On the main board side, take the two white wires of the two pairs and connect them to the negative of the power supply (POWER), while the remaining two colored wires of the pair must be placed respectively at the two terminals of the PROBE. On the detection board side, in the same pairs, the two white ones must be left disconnected, while the two colored ones must be connected respectively to the two terminals of the detection plate.Alternatively, a common three-pole cable can be used with 2 cables used for connecting the detection plate to the PROBE terminals and the third cable connected to the negative (-) power supply and left disconnected on the detection plate side.

ADVICE

  • Avoid using power supplies with a negative grounded (earth system) in case of outdoor use or non-insulated containers. This expedient allows to avoid dispersion of the very low current for detecting the presence of water. Without this precaution, the sensor could not detect the presence of water.

  • In some rare places the rainwater is so clean of impurities that it is almost distilled (not very conductive). This requires an increase in sensitivity for detection. In the event that rainwater continues to not be detected, especially in the event of heavy rain, it is advisable to place some pebbles, earth or a sponge on the plate in order to make the water less pure and with more mineral salts making it more electrically conductive. This is not necessary with ordinary drinking and tap water.

  • In case of anomalous activations with dew or fog it is possible to decrease the sensitivity or use the sensor accessory "HEATED PLATE" visible in the accessories section.

IDEAS FOR USE

Rain sensor: mount the detection plate inclined at 45 degrees and connect it to the logic circuit placed in a watertight electrical wall box

Flood sensor / alarm: mount the detection plate vertically flush with the floor and connect it to the logic circuit placed in a watertight electrical wall box, or in the same way use two test leads (for example with screws) to connect in place of the detection plate.

Soil moisture sensor: allows you to signal to a control system or to an irrigation system when the soil of the plants or the garden is dry and needs water. By inserting two tips into the ground (e.g. screws or nails) and varying the distance until the circuit is activated at the chosen amount of soil moisture.

OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES

  • Heated rain detection plate for 12V rain sensors with support

Rain detection plate compatible with all rain sensors that use electrical conductivity detection technology through plate with comb or wavy contacts. Thanks to the heated rear part, it is immune to humidity and atmospheric events other than rain alone, guaranteeing maximum performance at temperatures above 5 ° C and no false detection even in areas with high humidity. Supplied with support for wall or pipe installation using clamps. The internal 0.6W heater needs an additional 12V DC or AC power supply at least 60mA, see specifications for other allowable voltages.
