Kit of 2 ZigBee ATC-3200 serial radiomodems

The ATC-3200KIT includes two ATC-3200 modules and the accessories needed to create a point-to-point wireless serial connection between RS232, RS485, or RS422 devices. The network can be expanded with additional ATC-3200 modules, available for purchase separately, to create point-to-multipoint connections.

ZigBee wireless serial communication

The ATC-3200 connects RS232, RS422, and RS485 devices via a 2.4 GHz ZigBee radio network. It is suitable for replacing a wired serial link and for creating point-to-multipoint networks with additional modules. The devices operate in a master/slave configuration and transfer serial data transparently after configuration.

The supplied Windows software allows you to set the PAN ID, radio channel, and serial parameters. The configurable encryption key protects radio communication; modules on the same network must share the parameters required for connection.

Technical features

  • Interfaces: RS232 on DB9 male; RS422/RS485 on removable terminals.
  • Radio: 2.4 GHz ISM band, IEEE 802.15.4 standard.
  • RF Power: Programmable up to 12 dBm (16 mW).
  • Receiver sensitivity: typical −102 dBm.
  • Radio speed: typical 250 kbit/s.
  • Serial speed: up to 115.2 kbit/s.
  • Data buffer: 60 bytes.
  • Addressing: 65,535 unique node addresses; PAN ID to distinguish networks.
  • RS485: Support 2-wire and 4-wire, AUTO-SEND function and internal termination.
  • Configuration: dedicated software and UART commands.
  • Energy saving: low power mode.
  • Power supply: 9–24 V DC; serial power optional.
  • Declared conformity: CE and RoHS.

The datasheet indicates a radio range of up to 500 m under specified RF conditions (12 dBm and sensitivity −102 dBm). Actual range depends on obstacles, interference, antenna placement, and installation environment.

Initial setup

  1. Connect the first module to the PC via the RS232 cable and power it on. Activate configuration mode with the dedicated button until the LEDs flash.
  2. Open the program, select the COM port, and set the PAN ID, channel, speed, serial parameters, and encryption key on the master. Write the parameters with the "Write To Master" command.
  3. Connect the slave module, activate configuration mode, and transfer the same network parameters with "Write To Slave." Repeat for any additional nodes.
  4. Connect the modules to serial devices and verify data exchange. Terminal software for testing is also provided.

Kit contents

  • 2 ATC-3200 radio modems.
  • 2 AC/DC power adapters.
  • 2 1/4 lambda dipole antennas, 2.5 dBi gain, SMA male connector.
  • 2 RS232 cross cables.
  • 2 CD-ROMs with documentation and drivers.

The kit requires module configuration before use. Any USB/serial converters required for PC connection are not included.
